A powerful earthquake hit New Zealand towards the end of July 25. The tremors reached Auckland but no casualties or damage were reported yet. In California, a smaller 2.1 quake struck near Ocotillo Wells the day before. Strong aftershocks continue to strike Venezuela after the country’s latest strong quakes. Numerous residents are trapped under debris as rescue and medical teams labor continuously. PAHO says hospitals are urgently seeking aid to cope with additional crises.
